The single-face corrugating unit (commonly known as the "single facer") is the core forming equipment of a corrugated board production line. You can think of it as the "heart" of the entire production line.

Its core task is very clear: to press flat base paper (fluting) into wavy corrugations and bond it with another flat sheet of linerboard, producing single-face corrugated board.
Workflow Process
The single facer completes the transformation from base paper to formed board through a set of precise mechanical components:
  • Corrugating: The base paper (fluting) passes through high-temperature (typically 160°C-180°C) corrugating rolls, where it is pressed into standard U-shaped or V-shaped flutes.
  • Adhesive Application: The tops of the formed flutes are coated with an even layer of adhesive (starch or corn-based glue).
  • Laminating: The glued flutes and the linerboard are precisely bonded together under the pressure roll, forming a sturdy single-face corrugated board.
Production Line Role
  • Supplies the Basic Unit: The single-face corrugated board it produces is the foundation for subsequent processing. In the double facer process, two single-face boards are combined to ultimately produce three-ply, five-ply, or seven-ply corrugated board.
  • Determines Board Quality: The forming quality of the flutes, adhesive strength, and flute profile stability are all directly determined by the single facer. If problems occur here (e.g., crushed flutes, delamination), subsequent processes cannot compensate.
  • Efficiency Bottleneck: The operating speed of the single facer usually determines the maximum production rate of the entire line.
Structural Features
